Painting meets the wood shop
The router paintings came out of time spent moving between the painting studio and the wood shop. I'm a painter at heart, but I've always been drawn to the physical presence of an object.
Working on wooden panels, I build layered surfaces with acrylic and oil before carving into them with a handheld trim router. The carved lines become part drawing, part excavation — revealing grooves that give each painting a tactile surface and invite a closer look.
The process is irreversible. Once the router cuts, it cuts. That constraint forces a kind of commitment I find useful.
